I started off 2024 by participating in a 30 day drawing challenge run by Wendy MacNaughton’s GUT or the Grown-Ups Table. The aim of the challenge is to start a daily drawing habit and equip yourself with the skills, tools, and community to do so beyond the 30 days. The 10-minute prompts, delivered daily, included mini lessons in art, art history, self reflection, and creativity.
After each day, you share your drawing with the GUT community in a Substack thread where you find endless amounts of support and positivity. It’s interesting to see how others complete the same prompt, shared in a non social media platform.
Below, I’ll share my favorite entries over the past 30 days. What I learned the most from this challenge is how to observe the world around me in a new way. I learned how to take the things, people, places, and interactions around me and use them to document my life in a way that is unique to me.

I’m definitely feeling inspired to keep a more regular sketch book by pulling inspiration from my daily life and without being so consumed with the final product. Don’t overthink, just get started!
